Workshop Description:
The Axis Syllabus is a precise system of orienting the body internally and externally. Applied anatomy, physics and biomechanics are considered in the creation of spiraling and undulating movement material. Safe falling reflexes, fluid transitions and kinetic efficiency are some of the characteristics of this approach. With dedication to detail and research this training aims to protect, prepare and empower the precious instrument of the dancer.
In this workshop we will focus on the phenomenon of Tensegrity, a concept born out of architecture. “Tensegrity derives from collapsing the words “tension” and “integrity” and means that the integrity of these class of structures depends on the balance of tension within it’. We will explore how this principle appears in our muscles and fascia in connection with the bones and how it effects our alignment in movement.
We will be working individually and in partners both improvisational and in written patterns. I have found using contact improvisation can intensify sensation of our anatomical structure and the physical forces that are applied to it.
